Experience Overview:
Steve Mellon’s career has spanned 33 years, focused in Bridge Design, Construction, Construction Management and Earthquake Engineering. Mr. Mellon leads by serving as Design Team Leader and Project Manager, directing his staff of design and drafting personnel responsible for developing plans, specifications and estimates for bridge and roadway projects. His experience includes over 90 Advance Planning Studies (APS) and Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) for 80 projects involving more than 270 bridges.
During his 14 years with Caltrans, Mr. Mellon enjoyed his role as the Caltrans Bridge Earthquake Committee Chairman, responsible for establishing and implementing statewide seismic design criteria for use in California. These design criteria have been adopted by many engineers across the nation. Considered an expert in Bridge Earthquake Engineering, Mr. Mellon has performed site investigations and damage assessments following the 1986 Palm Springs, 1987 Whittier, 1989 Loma Prieta, and 1991 Costa Rica earthquakes. He has also performed bridge damage assessments for several local agencies following the floods of 1995, 1997, and 1998.
