![]() This project consisted of elevating Jack Tone Road over the Burlington Northern Santa FE Railway (BNSF) southeast of Stockton. With the construction of the BNSF Intermodal Container Terminal just west of the project site, train traffic increased significantly in the area, and the grade separation project was constructed to eliminate delays to vehicular traffic at this crossing. The new grade separation was constructed just east of the existing roadway to maintain traffic through the project site during construction. The new two-lane road is approximately 3000' long including a 713' long, six-span, prestressed concrete box girder bridge that spans over both the BNSF tracks and the adjacent South Littlejohns Creek. To expedite relief to motorists affected by the increased train traffic, the $5 million project was designed on a fast track schedule, and construction was completed in August 2003.
The preliminary design phase included evaluation of alternative alignments, alternative bridge types, and alternative bridge configurations to span both the railroad and the creek.
