Quincy Engineering Inc. is managed by four principals, each of whom has more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sector combined. Through the company's 15 years of existence, they have guided it through a wide variety of conditions as the firm has grown from its original staff of 2 to its current size of nearly 50. In addition to managing the daily operations of the business, they continue to manage many of the firm's most complex projects while working with senior staff to oversee every project.
John Quincy With the firm since its inception in 1992, Mr. Quincy has been an integral part of the firm's growth and development. John has 23 years of experience as a project manager, project engineer, and design engineer on over 60 transportation projects throughout California. He is well versed in all aspects of design, and specializes in bridge and other transportation related structures. His bridge experience includes structures comprised of prestressed and
reinforced concrete, and structural steel. He has designed bridges as simple as reinforced concrete slabs and as complex as suspension bridges. Finally, he has led the firm's efforts in its participation on the retrofit of several major toll bridges in the San Francisco Bay Area.
When not at the office, John enjoys golf, backpacking, boating, and basketball, including coaching his daughter's teams. In his spare time, he also cares for his wife's horses.
Jeff Olson
Jeff also joined the firm in 1992 and has guided the staff through many challenging projects. With 22 years of experience, he is adept at all phases of transportation and bridge design. In serving as project manager, project engineer, or design engineer, he has been responsible for the delivery of well over $150 million in new and modified facilities. This experience includes the PS&E of over 100 structures, including freeway-to-freeway interchanges, retaining walls, bridge widenings, seismic retrofits, and river crossings. While employed at Caltrans Division of Structures, he was also chairman of the Prestressed Concrete Committee and was a member of the Structural Steel Committee, both of which establish technical design standards, provide technical guidance and policies for in-house design staff, and act as the department liaison to the construction industry. Since moving to Oregon in 2004, he has been responsible for the firm's Salem office.
Mr. Olson's outside interests include camping, boating, snow and water skiing, and coaching his daughters in various sports. He also participates in an occasional golf outing, but no longer sees the point of the game.
Steve Mellon
Since joining the firm in 1996, Mr. Mellon has been responsible for the development, implementation, and success of the marketing endeavors that sustain the firm to this day. In addition, Steve has managed and/or designed over 80 projects that have included more than 100 advance planning studies and the final PS&E for over 250 bridges. An engineer for 27 years, he spent the first 14 years of his career with Caltrans Division of Structures where he was a design branch chief responsible for the work of a staff of 20 engineers and draftsmen. During that time, he was also the Chairman of the Earthquake Committee responsible for establishing seismic design policy for the department. Steve's leisure activities are numerous and range from hunting and fishing to golf, an endeavor he has recently taken on to enhance his marketing skills. He and his wife are very busy with teenage daughters who (including his wife) at times tax his creative mind to its very limit.
Alan Glen
Mr. Glen, with 27 years of experience in roadway project management and/or design, joined the firm in 1999 and launched the firm down the path of roadway/highway design. Prior to joining the firm, the first 20 years of his career were spent with Caltrans, where held a variety of technical and management positions. These included serving as geometric reviewer for several districts, and establishing and managing the roadway design
standards for the Caltrans Highway Design Manual. He has also served on various TRB and FHWA research panels, and represented California on the AASHTO Task Force on Geometric Design, which produces the AASHTO Policy on the Design of Streets and Roads, known as the "Green Book". Finally, for three years prior to joining the company, Alan managed the Local Assistance Program that was charged with delivering over $1 billion annually to Local Agency transportation projects.
With all of this, Alan manages to find time for his family, to which he is intensely devoted. He and his wife spend much time with their two college-aged sons skiing, boating, biking and just about any other outdoor activity you can think of. Alan has also been known to referee up to six soccer games in a day, when he feels the need to "get back in shape." Lastly, he claims to be the only real golfer in the firm.
