Quincy Engineering, Inc. is honored to receive recognition for the firm’s role in Nevada County’s Combie Roadway Widening & Improvements Project. APWA–Sacramento Chapter and ASCE–Sacramento Section have each named the project as their Transportation Project of the Year. These prestigious awards recognize public works projects that demonstrate excellent management, administration, design, sustainability, construction, and community relations. They also recognize the strong alliance among the managing agency and the designer, contractor, and construction management team who worked together to complete this project.
Combie Road (State Route 49 to Magnolia Road) is a minor arterial located near Meadow Vista. Serving as residents’ primary regional access to State Route 49, Combie Road has become one of the most heavily traveled County-maintained roadways with 16,000 average daily trips. Quincy partnered with Nevada County to increase safety on Combie Road for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists alike; ease congestion; and provide environmental enhancements and sanitation improvements. Thoughtful, creative engineering “paved the road” for the project’s success!
Quincy’s final PS&E included:
-
Undergrounding of existing overhead utilities using PG&E’s Rule 20A process
-
Widening the roadway from three lanes to five lanes in both directions
-
Adding Class-1 bicycle/pedestrian lanes in both directions
-
Modifying the traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 49 and Combie Road
-
Installing a new traffic signal at Combie Road and Higgins Road
-
Realigning the driveway for the Higgins Fire Protection District station into the new intersection at Combie Road and Higgins Road and adding emergency vehicle preemption
-
Extending a sewer line and other drainage improvements
Congratulations, team!
