Spotlight Series | Getting to Know You

Samatha Narra

If you could work on any engineering project in the world, what and where would it be?

Given a chance, I would like to design and see some of the tough roadway networks built in under-developed countries. I believe if a portion of what we do here in the U.S. is implemented in under-developed countries and be part of it, I will be really happy.

Why did you get into engineering?

ISince childhood I was the only one in our family who always thought outside the box. I am a big believer that with proper training, hard work, and opportunity, engineers can build marvels. Working in any engineering field, one can learn something every day. I just wanted to learn, contribute and implement the little drop of knowledge I have in this big engineering ocean.

If you could work on any engineering project in the world, what and where would it be?

I've always been fascinated with mining engineering, and would have liked to have worked on the Chunnel or other deep bore tunneling project.

Why did you get into engineering?

I was initially inspired as a kid by my mother's uncle, the only other civil engineer in our family. Growing up, I heard lots of stories about my Uncle Norman who was one of those "dam engineers" that worked on the construction of the Oroville and Shasta Dams in the 1960s.

What do you like most about working at Quincy?
The people for sure. I love how everyone at this company values family, and it's always easy coming into work every day with the kind of environment that we have here.

Why did you get into the field you're in?

Ever since I was a kid, I've always had a creative mindset and a drive to take something and make it something. My dad always said that I would do really well in marketing and I kind of just found my niche with it. I've got a background in graphic design, business administration and marketing, and experience with copywriting and journalism; which all three have been essential tools for what I do today.

Krassimir Panayotov, PE

In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy reading and watching movies. If I can afford the world.

If you could work on any engineering project in the world, what would it be?

I would love to design a Formula 1 track anywhere in the world.

Why did you get into engineering?

I can't sing, can't paint, and I am relatively good in math. Easy choice!
