Spotlight Series | Getting to Know You
Leland Mason, PE, QSD/P
If you could work on any engineering project in the world, what and where would it be?
I've always been fascinated with mining engineering, and would have liked to have worked on the Chunnel or other deep bore tunneling project.
Why did you get into engineering?
I was initially inspired as a kid by my mother's uncle, the only other civil engineer in our family. Growing up, I heard lots of stories about my Uncle Norman who was one of those "dam engineers" that worked on the construction of the Oroville and Shasta Dams in the 1960s.

What do you like most about working at Quincy?
The people for sure. I love how everyone at this company values family, and it's always easy coming into work every day with the kind of environment that we have here.
Why did you get into the field you're in?
Ever since I was a kid, I've always had a creative mindset and a drive to take something and make it something. My dad always said that I would do really well in marketing and I kind of just found my niche with it. I've got a background in graphic design, business administration and marketing, and experience with copywriting and journalism; which all three have been essential tools for what I do today.

In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy reading and watching movies. If I can afford to...travel the world.
If you could work on any engineering project in the world, what would it be?
I would love to design a Formula 1 track anywhere in the world.
Why did you get into engineering?
I can't sing, can't paint, and I am relatively good in math. Easy choice!
